One of the great names in the history of technology, Otto Lilienthal, is linked with Anklam: He was born here in 1848. With his bird-like apparatuses, he was able to bring to fruition an ancient dream of mankind, a flying machine, and therefore stands as a decisive figure at the dawn of the era of air and space flight. The museum has received numerous awards, among them a "European Museum of the Year Award - Special Commendation“ and the title „Recognized Museum“ from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale.
