Thuringia – an important cultural region in the heart of Germany and Europe – since the very begin-ning of human settlements, it was the home to a mix of numerous cultures, ethnic groups and peo-ples such as the Celts, Germans, Slavs or Franks, which is also a reflection of early European history. A complex picture is drawn for the period of 400,000 years of Thuringian history, not only the mate-rial culture but also the natural environment, technology and housing construction, intellectual cul-ture, the arts and the people are in the focus of the exhibition.
For the oldest history of Thuringia to become comprehensible, a great number of original finds from the most important archaeological excavations, drawings, models and life-size reconstructions communicate a lively image on an exhibition space of more than 1,000 m².
